Meets third Thursday of the month at 7:00pm at the Breakers Restaurant and Pub (upstairs room) 23241 Bayshore Drive, Port Charlotte, One block north on 41 from the Peace River bridge, Phone: 743-2800. Attitude adjustment prior to meeting at 6:30. Monitoring dives are scheduled the Sunday after the meeting.

The Charlotte Marine Research Team (CMRT) is a non-profit corporation established in 1999 and composed of volunteer citizens. The purpose of the organization is to:

  • Monitor the biological, chemical and physical properties of the aquatic environment surrounding artificial reefs in Charlotte Harbor and the nearby Gulf of Mexico.
  • Monitor the biological, chemical, and physical properties of sea grass beds along the shores of the Charlotte Harbor Estuary.
  • Assist and co-operate with Federal and State agencies by providing quality scientific data, as required, during monitoring activities.
  • Partner with local educational organizations to provide opportunities for students to learn about and contribute to the health of the Charlotte Harbor Estuary.
  • Promote a public awareness, understanding, and support for the benefits of artificial reefs in the region.
