Welcome to the live camera at Cherokee River Ranch in Ocala Florida. The camera is set so that the horse owner, the horse trainer, or just the plain curious can watch as thoroughbred horses swim in a pool designed just for them! The circular section of the horse pool is about 20’ deep so that the horse does not hit its legs or feet on the bottom. The ramp leading into the pool is equipped with no skid heavy duty rubber matting.

Like humans the Thoroughbred gets sore joints and various leg injuries. Weightless exercise for the animal is a must for these types of injury. The horse in most cases can carry on full exercise in the pool without putting strain on the injury. The swimming can also speed up the recovery process while keeping down swelling.

They use an extended trot. As a horse becomes accustomed to swimming he/she will use maximum extension with most of the power coming from their hind quarters. The effort required to swim is equivalent to that of a canter, but without the pounding that a hard surface would give.

This exercise is great for all horses and should be used at least twice a week.  For information on how to get your horse started with best exercise available, please call Randy at: (352) 401-0222.

The Horse is only exposed for a few minutes and the chlorine may help keep away some skin problems and is preferred over lakes where algae and other parasites may harm the horse. Regardless, each and every horse is washed immediately after completing their swim.

Of course they do, just watch as they smile at the camera. If that doesn’t convince you just stop in at the ranch and ask them. The horses would enjoy your company.
